As a therapist, Deanna brings creative insights to her warm and inviting presence.

Deanna Chrones graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is an LCPC therapist in Illinois and RMHCI therapist in Florida. Deanna is the founder of Chrones Counseling, a mental-health therapy practice. She uses psychotherapy to treat trauma… and the anxiety, depression and other disorders that come with it.

In therapy sessions, Deanna leans into body sensations and emotions before thoughts, because that is the order the brain works in, though thoughts are also explored. Research shows starting with body sensations and emotions, and linking in thoughts, helps people regulate their emotions and manage their mental health.

Deanna created a neural-based therapy involving the eyes and other somatic and mental exercises. The treatment is called Tholáge™ Neuropsychotherapy. This novel intervention focuses on treating emotion suppression, which causes the symptoms of many mental disorders, including depression, anxiety and trauma disorders, among many other mental disorders. The treatment is under study at several universities. Deanna is also very down-to-earth, and she loves to be outside, enjoying nature and sunlight. She loves yoga, walking, and spending time with friends and family.

Deanna is also trained in EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and cutting-edge therapy techniques meant to reduce anxiety and help people manage their emotions. Deanna Chrones provides counseling to people who live in Illinois and Florida, through online therapy, also known as distance therapy, virtual therapy, remote therapy, or Telehealth therapy.

Deanna has published on the relationship between the eyes and emotion regulation, in a leading scientific journal for counselors; helpful tips for therapists and clients can be found here ChronesMartinBeeson.

Additional Approaches to Therapy

In therapy sessions, Deanna leans into body sensations, describing the role they play in trauma. You’ll learn simple ways to tell the vagus nerve to go out of “fight or flight” and into “rest and digest” in nearly every therapy session with Deanna.

Deanna also provides helpful tips that create new neural pathways, so you can calm your own nervous systems, regulate your own emotions, and learn new and better ways to live life.

Whenever needed, Deanna also draws from CBT, cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT, dialectical behavior therapy, and ACT, acceptance and commitment therapy, as well as other forms of therapy.
